"A Modern Technician Work Order Experience"
Executive Summary
The initial release of FSI’s Inbox was in April of 2025. Since then, we have collected feedback from existing customers on some features that made moving from CMS Tech to Inbox a challenge. Our latest releases for Inbox v2 and v3 represent a focused evolution of the technician work order experience—designed to continue to improve the day‑to‑day Work Order (WO) completion while reducing complexity often reported with CMS Tech. As part of FSI’s mobile strategy to provide an easier to use solution for Technicians, Inbox is being built as the single, modern work tool technicians rely on every day. The work delivered in v2 and v3 directly addresses the historical reasons customers remained on CMS Tech—offline reliability, automatic time charges, My Recent Work Orders, and workflow efficiency—while introducing a cleaner, faster, and more sustainable mobile experience.
Why Change? The Limits of CMS Tech
CMS Tech has served technicians well, but its legacy architecture limits future progress to offer more innovative interactions. It relies on heavy online/offline data downloads, large list refreshes, and often reported as over complicating the Technicians user experience for just performing Work Orders in the field. These patterns increase user experience complexities and make it difficult to evolve quickly to meet modern mobile expectations.
Inbox enhances this approach with an API‑driven, offline‑optimized, mobile‑first design—maintaining technician reliability while simplifying the experience and accelerating innovation.
Inbox v2: Removes the Biggest Migration Blockers
Inbox v2 delivers the core capabilities technicians depend on most for completing work in the field, removing the primary blockers that historically prevented migration from CMS Tech.
Offline Work Orders: Technicians can download planned WOs, complete work fully offline, and automatically sync changes when reconnected, without confusing manual recovery steps.
Automatic Time Charges: Time is captured naturally as work is performed, improving accuracy while reducing administrative effort.
Adding to Filters: Enhancing the filtering ability to organize work based on the “Priority” set on the Work order.
Enhanced Work Order Search: Adding a set Saved Search for Work Orders "My Recent Work Orders". This will have similar look and feel as other Saved Search Views in Inbox but add ability to look at previously completed work
Outcome: CMS Tech level reliability for offline and field workflows, delivered through a faster and more intuitive mobile experience.
Inbox v3 Coming this Summer, Improves Daily Efficiency & Ownership
Inbox v3 builds on this foundation by enhancing how technicians manage their day, prioritize work, and track their time.
Scan & Find: Barcode scanning enables fast discovery of active Work Orders associated with an Asset, reducing time spent searching.
CMS Work Order Saved Search Integration: Access and apply your existing Saved Searches directly within Inbox, without having to recreate them from scratch
User Status & My Profile: A new User icon in the navigation bar gives you quick access to personal account features, while keeping the Settings gear right where you expect it. Clear visibility into technician status and personal settings from a single, consistent menu.
My Hours: Simple access to logged time, supporting transparency and reducing supervisor follow‑ups.
Sorting Options: Take control of how your Work Orders are displayed with flexible sorting on the mobile list view
Outcome: Less time managing lists and menus, more time completing work—especially for high‑volume technician teams.
Why Inbox Is the Right Long‑Term Platform
Inbox is intentionally scoped as the technician’s daily work solution, not a catch‑all CMS replacement. Core technician workflows—Finding Work Orders, completing Work Orders, and getting work documented and done—live in Inbox today, while more comprehensive management tasks will continue to live in CMS. This separation keeps Inbox fast, focused, and scalable without recreating complexity.
What This Means for Customers
By migrating technician WO completion workflows from CMS Tech to Inbox, customers preserve the capabilities technicians rely on most while moving to a more innovative and easier to use tool to perform their work. Inbox v2 is not simply a parity release—but rather continues to establish the foundation for a simpler, more resilient, and more productive technician experience.
